Steven has been practicing law since 1982. He is admitted to practice in the State of Utah as well as before the Utah Federal District Court and the United States Supreme Court. Steven received his law degree in 1981 from Samford University located in Birmingham, Alabama and his bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Utah in 1977 where he graduated cum laude and was runner up for a departmental award for academic excellence and his participation on a number of departmental committees. Immediately after graduating from law school Steven worked as a prosecutor for two years before going into full-time private practice where he prosecuted a wide variety of criminal cases. Steven also served as a Judge Pro tem for the Third Judicial District Court for a number of years during his early years of practice. Steven has also been active in politics having run for the Utah State Senate having barely lost a close election where he was supported by many influential people in the community. In fact, he was and has been since his candidacy the only candidate for any office that received an open endorsement from the editor of Salt Lake Tribune. Since his candidacy, Steven has been active in supporting candidates that are open to supporting lawmaking that has improved or is designed to improve Utah’s judicial system and he continues to maintain substantial influence in this regard.

Steven’s areas of practice include primarily family law, personal injury, probate, contract law, and criminal law. In the area of family law Steven has represented hundreds of clients in both district and juvenile courts throughout the entire state with great success. Steven’s clients have presented with a broad range of issues from complex custody and financial issues to simple visitation and support issues. Steven’s aggressive approach on behalf of his client’s cases has resulted in a successful track record whether it has been in the trial of such cases or in early resolution through mediation where he has had a high percentage of cases settle, saving his clients thousands of dollars and avoiding his client’s lives continuing in legal limbo for several months.
