PURSUANT To UTAH CODE SECTION 30-3-11.4 all PARTIES filing in utah AFTER MAY 1, 2007, FOR A DIVORCE, A LEGAL SEPARATION, OR A TEMPORARY SEPARATION have TO ATTEND A ONE HOUR Divorce orientation class. The fee for the class is $20 per person, cash or money order only. The Divorce orientation class is in addition to the already required divorce education class.
• Petitioner and Respondent are required by law to attend a one-session, one hour class entitled “Divorce ORIENTATION for Parents”. A petitioner must take the course no more than 60 days after filing for divorce; the respondent must attend no more than 30 days after being served with a petition for divorce.
• A party who files a petition for temporary separation and motion for temporary orders must complete the class within 60 days of filing the petition; and the respondent must complete the class within 45 days of being served.
• If your spouse lives out-of-state, contact the State Divorce Program Assistant at (801) 238-7181 for your or your spouse to purchase a video of the class ($20.00) to fulfill the Divorce Orientation requirement. The court will not waive the requirement for out-of-state parents. If your spouse is incarcerated or hospitalized, call the State Divorce Program Assistant at (801) 238-7181, to make arrangements for viewing the video. The Court will not waive the requirement for incarcerated or hospitalized parents..
• Both Petitioner and Respondent must complete this course before their divorce will be granted. Parents may attend the course separately or together. Children are not allowed in the class. Locations and times of classes are listed on the court’s website, www.utcourts.gov/specproj/dived.html, or by calling (801) 238-7181. A portion of the fee goes to the Children’s Defense Fund.
DIVORCE EDUCATION CLASS
To: all parties filing for divorce, who have children under the age of 18.

A petitioner must take the course no more than 60 days after filing for divorce; the respondent must attend no more than 30 days after being served with a petition for divorce.
• A party who files a petition for temporary separation and motion for temporary orders must complete the class within 60 days of filing the petition; and the respondent must complete the class within 45 days of being served.

• No late-comers will be admitted and must reschedule a time to attend another class.
• Payment for the class must be made before the class begins. The fee for two classes is $55.00 per person and is payable in cash or money order only. If you are unable to pay this cost, you may file an Affidavit of Impecuniosity at your District Court, regarding your financial status. Bring a copy of that Affidavit to class showing proof of filing. No one will be given their proof-of-attendance certificate without either payment or an Affidavit of Impecuniosity. You must also bring your case number, if you have filed for divorce.
